The ninth-ranked women’s tennis team (6-1) welcomes the Washington Huskies (6-1) to Tuscaloosa for a match that will be played at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility on Friday. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. CT.
The Crimson Tide returns home after going 2-1 in its first trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which took place last weekend in Charlottesville, Va. Alabama’s loss came in the first round of the tournament as it dropped a 4-1 decision to 14th-ranked Northwestern. The Tide bounced back in its two consolation matches, however, winning a pair of 4-3 victories over No. 15 Baylor and No. 11 Texas.
Alabama has four singles players ranked nationally in the latest release of ITA rankings with junior Mary Anne Macfarlane at No. 20, senior Alexa Guarachi at No. 22, freshman Maya Jansen at No. 59 and freshman Natalia Maynetto at No. 89. Guarachi and Macfarlane also remain at No. 2 in doubles.
Washington won its first four matches of the season before dropping a 4-0 decision to No. 2 UCLA in the championship match of ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Los Angeles. Since then, the Huskies have won two straight, beating in-state foes San Diego State and Saint Mary’s.
This will be the first match since 2002 between Alabama and Washington and the second match overall. The Huskies won the previous meeting, 5-2, in Seattle.
