TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 42nd-ranked women's tennis team (3-1) will host its first home matches of the 2011 season as it welcomes Central Florida (2-1) and Chattanooga (1-1) this weekend. The Crimson Tide will face the Knights on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. CT and the Lady Mocs on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. CT. All matches will be held at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
"We're eager to play at home after being on the road since mid-January," Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz said. "We have an inspiring team to watch. They're a dynamic and tenacious group."
Last weekend, the Tide won a close match against No. 69 Texas Tech, 4-3, and turned around to sweep Tulane the following day, 7-0. Alabama handed the Red Raiders their first loss of the season and the Green Wave its second, giving Texas tech a 4-1 record while dropping Tulane to 2-2. Freshman Mary Anne Macfarlane continued her stellar play at No. 1 singles for the Tide as she moved to 3-0 on the season. Junior Courtney McLane also had a solid weekend going undefeated in both singles and doubles earning her SEC Player of the Week honors.
The Knights picked up their second win of the season last weekend with a 7-0 win over Bethune Cookman. Central Florida's lone loss of the season came at Florida where the Knights were swept. This will be the second time Alabama has seen Central Florida this season as the Tide faced members of the Knight squad at the Seminole Quad Tournament in January; however Saturday's match marks the first time the two teams will meet each other for a dual match.
The Lady Mocs opened their season with a 5-2 win over Belmont before falling 5-2 to Middle Tennessee State last weekend. Sunday's match will be Chattanooga's first on the road in 2011. The Tide and Lady Mocs are tied a 6-6 in the all-time series with Alabama winning the last five meetings.
"We've gained a lot of valuable match play, and we're doing a better job of making adjustments," Mainz added. "We're looking to get better this weekend and play the big points with confidence and authority."
Live scoring will be available on RollTide.com for both matches.
