Women's Tennis Heads to New Orleans to Take on Texas Tech and Tulane

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 46th-ranked women's tennis team will face off against Texas Tech (2-0) and Tulane (2-0) in New Orleans, La., this weekend. The Crimson Tide will play the Red Raiders on Saturday, Feb. 5 and Tulane on Sunday, Feb. 6. Both matches will begin at noon CT and will take place at the Goldring Tennis Center.

Last time out, Alabama went 1-1 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend as the Tide nearly pulled an upset of No. 3 Baylor, but fell just short 4-3. Alabama came back on Sunday to blank No. 64 Oklahoma State, 4-0. The Tide came out strong in both matches claiming an early lead after securing the doubles point. Alabama had a 3-1 lead against the Bears, but would end up losing in the remaining three singles matches. The Tide pulled through on Sunday against the Cowgirls winning all three of the singles matches that finished in straight sets. Junior Taylor Lindsey would provide the match clincher after downing Oklahoma State freshman Allison Burckhartt 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

Texas Tech started its season last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M., with a close 4-3 win against Wichita State. The Red Raiders followed that up with a 7-0 win over host New Mexico. Alabama is 1-2 all-time versus Texas Tech.

Tulane also started its dual match season last weekend with dominating wins over Xavier (LA) and Southern, with scores of 7-0 and 6-1, respectively. The Green Wave and Red Raiders will face each other today. Alabama is currently 5-3 all-time against Tulane.

Next up, the Tide will play its first home matches of the season when it hosts Central Florida on Saturday, Feb. 12 and Chattanooga on Sunday, Feb. 13. Both matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.
