TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The women’s tennis team will be represented in the singles and doubles finals of the 2012 USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships on Monday, with a spot in the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on the line.
Alabama’s Alexa Guarachi and Mary Anne Macfarlane came back from a pair of early breaks to win their doubles match over Tulane’s Caroline Magnusson and Caroline Thornton, 8-6, to advance to the finals.
In singles, Guarachi knocked off Auburn’s Jackie Kasler, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarterfinals before cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mississippi’s Julia Jones in the semifinals. The Tide’s Natalia Maynetto also won her quarterfinals match, posting a 7-6(3), 6-3 win against the Tulane’s Klara Vyskocilova, the tournament’s No. 3 seed. In her semifinal match, Maynetto battled through some long games, but came up short, falling 6-1, 7-6(2) to No. 2 seed Caroline Rohde Moe of Mississippi.
Monday’s doubles final will take place at 9 a.m. CT. The singles final will go on court shortly after the conclusion of doubles.
