The women’s tennis team collected an additional four wins on Saturday at the Furman Fall Classic, bringing its two-day total to 10 victories.
Alabama started off the day winning both of its doubles matches as Mary Anne Macfarlane and Maya Jansen topped Florida State’s Amy Sargeant and Francesca Segarelli, 8-4, while Yasmeen Ebada and Emily Zabor battled for a 9-7 victory against Clemson’s Yui Lynn Miao and Romy Koelzer.
In singles, both Macfarlane and Jansen won their matches, advancing the Tide netters to their respective draw finals, as 10th-ranked Macfarlane dominated Furman’s Lauren Kline, 6-1, 6-1, while Jansen beat North Carolina’s Whitney Kay, the ITA’s fifth ranked newcomer/freshman, 6-1, 6-4. Also competing in singles for the Tide was Natalia Maynetto, Zabor and Ebada. Maynetto was edged out in a close 6-4, 7-5, decision against Florida State’s Mia Vriens, and Zabor by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, against the Seminoles’ Sargeant. Ebada also fell in her match, losing 6-4, 6-1, to Koelzer.
Matches will resume at 8 a.m. CT, on Sunday with the final round of singles.
