CARY, N.C. – The women’s tennis team collected five wins on the first day of play at the Duke Fab Four Invite with three coming in doubles and another two in singles.
The Crimson Tide’s freshman duo of Erin Routliffe and Danielle Spielmann picked up a pair of 8-5 wins to advance to the finals of their respective draw, and junior Emily Zabor and freshman Carmen Blanco won one of their two matches, earning a spot in the third place match of their draw.
In singles, Routliffe dominated Texas A&M’s Mason Strickland, 6-0, 6-2, to win her first collegiate singles match, while Zabor came back from a first set loss to beat North Carolina’s Laura Slater, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Matches will resume at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday with the final round of doubles. Two rounds of singles will follow.
