LEXINGTON, Ky. - The sixth-ranked Alabama women's tennis team earned a 4-0 shutout versus Kentucky on Sunday at the Boone Tennis Complex. With the win, the Crimson Tide improves to 16-3 overall and 8-1 in the Southeastern Conference, while the loss brings the Wildcats to 15-7 on the season and 5-5 in league play.
Alabama secured the doubles point with a pair of 8-5 victories, first on court two as 70th-ranked Mary Anne Daines and Danielle Spielmann beat Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi. Shortly after, No. 13 Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe topped CeCe Witten and Caitlin McGraw at the top spot to give the Tide a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
SEC Player of the Week Luicelena Perez wasted no time giving Alabama a 2-0 lead as she downed Taylor Lederman, 6-2, 6-1, on court six. From there, it would be the freshmen closing out the victory for the Tide with No. 57 Routliffe winning, 7-5, 6-3, on court three and Spielmann, 6-3, 7-5, on court two to clinch. The remaining three matches were all in third sets and would go unfinished.
Alabama will play its final home matches of the regular season next weekend when it hosts No. 7 Texas A&M and Missouri. Friday's match against the Aggies will begin at 5 p.m. CT, while Sunday's match versus the Tigers is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
