TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Carrigan Fain out of Gardendale High School (Gardendale, Ala.) has signed her national letter of intent to play for the Alabama softball team head coach Patrick Murphy announced Wednesday.
"Crash [Fain] is exactly what we are looking for in an Alabama softball student-athlete," Murphy said. "She is highly motivated, has excellent grades, plays on a very competitive summer ball team and has dreamed of playing at Alabama for years."
The right-handed catcher led her high school team, coached by Haley Lawson, with a .636 batting average her junior year including 14 doubles, seven home runs and 31 total runs. Fain was named to the 2013 6A AL.com Players to Watch List as well as the 2013 Birmingham News All North-East team.
As a member of the Lady Lightning Gold Team, coached by John Corn, she was named to the studentsports.com top 25 recruiting class at ninth place, studentsports.com Hot 100 Seniors at No. 30 and studentsports.com Top 5 Catchers on Hot 100 List. The Lady Lightning Gold team was the 2013 Independent Day Tournament undefeated champions.
"I chose Alabama because the atmosphere surrounding the team is the most amazing championship atmosphere of any school that I looked at," said Fain. "I grew up loving the Crimson tide and have emulated the catchers there for years. When I began pushing myself to go the extra mile and to work as hard as I could to play at the best school in the country, Alabama was the only choice."
The daughter of Michael and Annie Fain, she is first in her class of 304 and will graduate advanced academic with distinction. A member of the National Honor Society, Fain was the 2013 GHS Nominee for Scholar Athlete of the Week as well as the 2013 GHS Nominee for Birmingham Magazine's Super Scholar Edition.
