TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head softball coach Patrick Murphy announced the signing of Chandler Dare (Moundville, Ala.). Dare comes to the Capstone from American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa.
"We are really excited to sign another hometown young lady," Murphy said. "Chandler's ability to play at a high level was witnessed many times over the past few years with her performances in national tournaments."
The utility infielder is a four-time all-state selection while playing for ACA and was the Tuscaloosa News Softball's Best Selection for the past four seasons as well. Dare set the state record for single-season batting average in 2011, batting .658, which broke her own record of .645 that she set in 2010. As a junior, Dare hit .619 with five home runs, 14 doubles, 11 triples, and had 91 hits on the year. She added 43 stolen bases and 41 RBI to go along with 63 runs scored.
As a member of the Tennessee Fury Gold club team in Chattanooga, Tenn., Dare helped the team to consecutive top 20 finishes at the ASA Gold Nationals in 2011 and 2012.
Dare doesn't just dominate on the softball field, as she is a six-time state champion in cross country and track and field, as well as being named a two-time all-state selection in both sports. She holds the school record in the 100 meters, 200 meters, triple jump, and the 4 X 100 relay team.
"She is a great young athlete who plays shortstop in high school and centerfield in summer ball," Murphy said. "Like Marisa Runyon, Chandler throws right and hits left. She has the speed we were looking for from this signing class."
Off the field, Dare is a member of the National Honor Society, VISTA, BETA Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Tuscaloosa Four Runners.
