The Alabama softball team inked Demi Turner out of Huntsville High School (Huntsville, Texas) head coach Patrick Murphy has announced.
"Demi is a great all-around fit for us," Murphy said. "She comes from a very athletic family and has a combination of speed and power that we look for in our lefties. She is going to be fun to watch."
A former teammate of current Crimson Tide outfielder Andrea Hawkins, Turner posted a .653 batting average from the left side of the plate over the summer of 2012 to lead her club team, Impact Gold. Turner batted .715 including a home run in the fall nationals. In 2013 the team finished third at the TCS Nationals. Turner is coached by KC Jackson on the Impact Gold club team.
"I love that the coaches and the team make me feel like we're a family," Turner said. "We all have the same dream and drive to help each other and push each other to get better and win a championship."
At Huntsville High School, coached by David Baker, Turner batted .640 for her first three years and added at least 60 steals a season. In her junior season she was voted All-State, First Team All-District and team MVP. Turner was also Academic All-District three years in a row.
The daughter of Evelyn and Rodney Turner, she is a member of the Key Club and the National Honor Society. She is also a member of the National Technical Honor Society.
