TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team will get the fall exhibition season underway with its first contests on the Fall Brawl schedule. The Crimson Tide will open the season with a doubleheader against Northwestern State on Saturday, Oct. 20, with the first game starting at Noon.

On Sunday, Oct. 21, the Tide will host Anderson University in a twin-bill, with the first contest beginning at Noon as well.

“Workouts have been going very well,” head coach Patrick Murphy said. “We are impressed with a number of kids including Kaila Hunt, Haylie McCleney, Danielle Richard and Jackey Branham.”

Alabama enters the new season on the heels of its first ever National Championship. The Crimson Tide finished 60-8 overall and won its third straight Southeastern Conference regular season title.

UA returns All-Americans Kaila Hunt and Jackie Traina. Traina recorded a 42-3 record in the circle with a 1.87 ERA and added 10 home runs. Hunt led the team in home runs with 21, drove in 77 runs and finished with a .312 average.

Alabama welcomes five newcomers to the squad, including one transfer. The recruiting class was rated tops in the country.

“Our depth is going to be our number one team strength again this year,” Murphy said. “In our seven fall ball games, our fans will not see the same lineup twice.  The fall is the time for me to mix and match different lineups to see what might work best in the spring.”

Northwestern State concluded their spring season with a 19-31 record and a 7-14 record in the Southland Conference. Anderson University finished 38-13 last spring with a 15-5 mark in the SAC.

Alabama will return to action for Fall Brawl III when it hosts Tennessee State for a doubleheader on Sunday, Oct. 28. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Admission will be $5 for the entire day at each event.
