TUSCALOOSA The Amateur Softball Association announced Kelly Kretschman as one of the 18 players named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster for the 2006 Japan Cup.
The selections were made by the Women’s National Team Selection Committee following a four-day selection camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
Kretschman, a four-time NFCA and Easton All-American at Alabama, has had plenty of previous experience on the U.S. National team. Last year she earned a gold medal at the Pan Am Qualifier and silver medals at the World Cup and Japan Cup. She was a member of the 2004 U.S. team that brought home the gold from the Athens Olympic Games. In 2003, she hit a team-high .355 with 11 hits and six RBI to help lead the USA Softball Elite Team to the Canada Cup gold medal. She was also an alternate on the U.S. Olympic team in 2000.
The IV Japan Cup will take place Nov. 13-20 in Yokohama, Japan. It is the final competition for the U.S. team in 2006.
