FULL LIST OF 2014 ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the first time in Alabama Softball history, the Crimson Tide boast four Capital One Academic All-America honorees, as Molly Fichtner, Kaila Hunt and Haylie McCleney earned First Team honors while Ryan Iamurri earned Second Team honors.
Alabama is the only team with four overall selections and is the only team with three First Team selections. At least one member of the Tide has been named an Academic All-American every season since 2008 and the four on this season’s list tops the previous program record of three set in 2012 and 2001.
Hunt is making her second-straight appearance on the list after earning Second Team honors last season, when she became just the sixth player in Alabama history to earn Academic All-American and All-American honors in the same season. This year, Hunt is one of the top 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award and was named First Team NFCA All-South Region and Second Team All-SEC. She owns a 3.71 GPA in Secondary Education (Math).
McCleney and Fichtner are both first-time Academic All-Americans and own perfect 4.0 GPAs. McCleney was a Top 10 Finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year, First Team NFCA All-South Region and First Team All-SEC. Fichtner earned Second Team NFCA All-South Region and Second Team All-SEC honors.
This is Iamurri’s first All-American award, though she is a two-time NFCA Academic All-American Scholar Athlete and was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll during her freshman season. Last year, she was named to the SEC Community Service Team and she owns a 4.0 in public relations with minors in psychology and art.
