TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Crimson Tide beat the USC Upstate Spartans 7-1 Saturday, to advance to Sunday's 2014 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional championship game. Upstate will play again at 6 p.m. in Saturday's second elimination game.
Alabama scattered 16 hits on the day and left 11 on base on the way to scoring its seven runs. The Crimson Tide was hot early, scoring four in the first inning and two more in the third before closing out the scoring with one run in the top of the seventh. Jadyn Spencerled the way for Alabama, going 4-for-4 at the plate, including her second homerun of the weekend. She is now a perfect 8-for-8 for the regional. Shellie Robinson scored Upstate's only run on a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
Alabama's Jaclyn Trainapicked up the win for Alabama, pushing her record to 21-3 on the season, while Lexi Shubert took the loss for the Spartans, falling to 18-2.
Alabama returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Saturday's third game. USC Upstate will play in that third game, which starts at 6 p.m., against the winner of Saturday's second game between SIU Edwardsville and South Alabama.
