TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team was awarded the No. 3 national seed and the top seed in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional on Sunday night. The Crimson Tide will open regional play at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at the Alabama Softball Complex against Chattanooga. The opening game of the regional will feature Florida State and Jacksonville State at 4 p.m. The Tuscaloosa and Chapel Hill regionals are the only regionals to begin on Thursday, May 15. ESPN2 and ESPN360.com will simulcast Saturday's championship round with the first game slated for 7:30 p.m. and the second game - if necessary - at 9:30 p.m. Alabama finished the 2008 regular season with a SEC Western Division Championship and a 51-6 overall record, including a 25-3 mark in league play. The third-ranked Tide is making their 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament under the direction of head coach Patrick Murphy. It is the fourth straight year Alabama has been a host site for an NCAA Regional and the sixth time overall. The Crimson Tide has captured five NCAA Regional titles (2000, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007) and boasts a 23-9 record in regional play.
