Charlotte Morgan Finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama sophomore first baseman and pitcher Charlotte Morgan was named one of 10 finalists for the seventh annual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award on Wednesday presented by the Amateur Softball Association. Morgan, a sophomore from Moreno Valley, Calif., has done a little bit of everything for the Crimson Tide in 2008. She is hitting .435 with 15 home runs, 18 doubles and 66 RBI while compiling a 14-2 record in the circle with a team-best 1.28 ERA. Her 66 RBI rank as the second most in school history and currently rank third nationally. She boasts a .825 slugging percentage while reaching base at a .492 clip. The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by NCAA Division-I collegiate softball players across the country. The 10 finalists include five seniors, three juniors, one sophomore and a freshman. The Southeastern Conference is represented with three players among the 10 finalists, including Morgan, Tennessee's Tonya Callahan and Florida's Stacey Nelson. The Crimson Tide opens the 2008 SEC Tournament at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La., on Thursday, May 8, at 5 p.m., against Mississippi State.
