The sixth-ranked Alabama softball team (25-4) returns home to continue its mid-season non-conference slate to host in-state rival Birmingham Southern (19-5) on Thursday.
The Crimson Tide comes in off a 4-1 performance against some of the top competition at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, California last week.
Alabama leads the all-time series against the Panthers 4-0 with the most recent victory coming last season, a 7-0 win in Birmingham.
Jordan Praytor, who was named the SEC Player of the Week based on her performance in last week’s tournament, leads the Alabama offense hitting at a .400 clip on the season, a team high. Dani Woods and Staci Ramsey pace the Tide’s power numbers with each hitting a team high four home runs while Ramsey has driven in a team best 20 runs so far this season.
In the pitching circle, it’s a two-headed monster for the Crimson Tide consisting of senior Stephanie VanBrakle and sophomore Chrissy Owens. Owens has a team best 0.54 ERA while VanBrakle leads the staff with a 15-2 record and 177 strikeouts in 107.1 innings of work.
