TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Louisiana Lafayette started the day by earning their 20th victory of the season with a 5-2 victory over Seton Hall.
The Ragin’ Cajuns got off to a fast start with two runs in the first inning. They did their damage with two outs with the help of an error to keep the inning alive. Melissa Verde carried over her success from Friday when she singled to center to drive in a run. Then with the bases loaded, Lana Bowers drew a walk to score one more run for a 2-0 lead.
Holly Tankersley scored her second run of the game the next inning when she hit a solo home run to left field for her sixth home run of the year. The Ragin’ Cajuns would then go three innings without scoring again until Codi Runyan hit her second home run of the weekend and eighth of the season. Two batters later Lacey Bertucci drove a home run to right for the team’s sixth home run in two games and her third of the year.
The Pirates started to rally in the top of the seventh inning. Laura Baranek led off the frame with a single to right field. Two batters later Amanda Winn doubled to the gap in right center to drive in the first run of the day for Seton Hall. Winn came in to score with two outs as Leah Menichetti lined a double in to right center to cut the lead to 5-2. However, Tankersley got the next batter to pop up and end the game.
Tankersley allowed two runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts in seven innings, improving to 8-2 on the year. Kim Schweitzer threw all six innings for Seton Hall and allowed four earned runs on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts to fall to 0-8 on the season.
The top three batters in the lineup for ULL, Runyan, Tankersley and Bertucci, all tallied two hits in the game and accounted for four runs and three RBI. Each of them also hit home runs in the game. Daria Glynos led Seton Hall going 2-for-2 on the day.
