The University of Alabama softball team was ranked No. 22 in the newly released USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll.
"We're the only team that was ranked to start this season that finished last season unranked," said Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy. "I think people saw the impact our freshmen had last season and felt we deserved to be ranked, despite losing Shelley (Laird) and Suzanne (Olcott)."
Alabama is one of four teams to start the season ranked in the Top 25. The LSU Tigers rank No.7, the Georgia Bulldogs are at No. 17 and the South Carolina Gamecocks check in at No. 20.
The Tide will open the season on the road at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial hosted by top-ranked UCLA. Bama will open the tournament with a doubleheader on Friday against CS-Fullerton who opens the season ranked No. 10.
