TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –The Crimson Tide faithful packed Rhoads Stadium Saturday afternoon for Fan Appreciation Day, as they got to meet the 2014 Alabama softball team, win prizes and watch a scrimmage.
Close to 500 eager fans attended the event, raising over $2,500 for the Diamond Backers Booster Club. All proceeds from the event will help fund improvements to Rhoads Stadium, the clubhouse and hitting facility.
The day started with a facility tour, showing off the many offseason improvements to Rhoads Stadium and the clubhouse. A line wrapped around the concourse for the ensuing team autograph session and the pre-practice festivities concluded with Coach Murphy and the team addressing the crowd and giving away various prizes.
After a short warm up, the Tide played a five-inning scrimmage, with Team Grey beating out Team Crimson, 7-3. Team Grey was led by Danielle Richard, who went 3-5 with four RBI.
Alabama opens its season on Friday, Feb. 7 at the Troy Subway Invitational in Troy, Ala. There, the Tide will play five games in three days against Kennesaw State, North Florida, Northwestern State, Middle Tennessee State and Troy.
The Tide opens its home slate with the Easton Bama Bash, presented by Drash, starting on Friday, Feb. 21 against Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. CT. Brickyard season tickets are also still available for purchase at rolltide.com.
