NCAA SOFTBALL TUSCALOOSA REGIONAL - Alabama Beats SIU Edwardsville, 13-3 in Five Innings

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Crimson Tide beat the SIU Edwardsville Cougars 13-3 in just five innings, to close day one of the 2014 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional being held at Rhoads Stadium this weekend.

Alabama got on the scoreboard early and often, piling up nine runs through the first three innings. SIUE's bats came alive in the top of the fourth, putting two across and another in the fifth inning to make it 9-3 going into the bottom of the inning. It was in the bottom of the fifth that Alabama's Leona Lafaeleput a three-run shot over the leftfield wall to invoke the run rule.

Leslie Jurypicked up the win for Alabama, pushing her record to 16-6 on the season, while Haley Chambers took the loss for SIUE, falling to 18-14.

Alabama returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against USC Upstate while SIUE faces South Alabama in the regional's first elimination game Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
