NCAA SOFTBALL TUSCALOOSA REGIONAL - USC Upstate Beat South Alabama, 5-3 in Eight Innings

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The USC Upstate Spartans beat the South Alabama Jaguars 5-3 in eight innings, to close out game one of the 2014 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional being held at Rhoads Stadium.

Both schools scored in the first inning before USC Upstate opened up a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth with runs in the fourth and six innings before South Alabama answered with two runs of their own to tie things up in the bottom of the sixth. After a scoreless seventh inning, the Spartans drove in two in the top of the eighth and held the Jaguars scoreless in the bottom of the frame to close things. Anna Miller picked up the win for Upstate, pushing her record to 19-5, while Hannah Campbell took the loss for South Alabama, falling to 17-6.

USC Upstate returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Friday's 6 p.m. Alabama-SIU Edwardsville game. South Alabama faces the loser of tonight's contest in an elimination game Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
