BATON ROUGE, La. - The Alabama softball team was swept for the first time since its last trip to Baton Rouge in 2011 as it fell to LSU, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in front of a Tiger Park record crowd of 3,231. After the day the Crimson Tide moves to 40-10 overall and 12-9 in Southeastern Conference play.

In a back-and-forth affair the first two errors of the series by the Tide ended up being the difference as the Tigers (40-11, 15-6 SEC) scored two fifth inning unearned runs to take the series sweep.

Alabama once again outhit LSU, this time 8-6. Senior Kayla Braud, freshman Haylie McCleney and sophomore Danielle Richard recorded two hits apiece.

Junior Jackie Traina (17-6) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs - two earned - on six hits while striking out four. Rachele Fico (24-9) earned the win after allowing three runs - two earned - on eight hits with four strikeouts in the complete game effort.

Alabama took its first lead of the series when it scored in the first inning. Richard drove in McCleney on a two-out single through the left side. McCleney got the game going with its first hit, an infield single to shortstop.

After LSU evened the score in the first the Tide retook the lead in the third. Back-to-back doubles by Braud and McCleney promptly did the trick as McCleney tattooed the wall down the line in left to easily score Braud from second.

Once again the Tigers tied the game but the Tide responded with a single run in the fifth. The combination of Braud and McCleney struck again for Alabama as Braud hit her second double of the game and then moved over to third on a wild pitch before McCleney hit a sac-fly to center.

The Tide will return home to close out the regular season in a three game series against Kentucky. The two teams will open the series on Friday, May 3, with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. CT, at Rhoads Stadium.
