TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The second ranked Alabama softball team fell behind early and could not complete the comeback, as it fell, 3-2, to No. 21 LSU in front of a Rhoads Stadium record crowd of 3,521. With the loss, the Crimson Tide drops to 36-2 overall and 13-2 in Southeastern Conference play. The Tigers improve to 29-9 on the year and 11-2 in league play.

LSU outhit Alabama, 5-4. Senior Jennifer Fenton collected two of the Tide hits that included a home run. Fenton had her NCAA record of consecutive stolen bases come to an end as she was thrown out in the first inning. It was the first time she had been thrown out since March 13, 2010.

The Tide could not complete the comeback against LSU pitcher Rachele Fico, stranding runners in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Fico improved to 14-4 on the year. Freshman Leslie Jury was tagged with the loss, falling to 10-2. Jury allowed three runs on three hits and struck out four batters in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Amanda Locke allowed one hit and struck out three in 2 2/3 innings of relief while Jackie Traina allowed a hit and struck out one in the final inning.

After Alabama allowed an opponent to score for the first time in 13 games in the first inning, the Tide responded with a home run of its own. Locke answered the Ashley Langoni two-run homer with a solo shot that hit the scoreboard to pull UA within one. The home run was her ninth of the season.

LSU added another run in the third but once again Alabama had an answer. Fenton hit a two out solo home run over the wall in center to pull the Tide within one. The home run was her fourth on the season.

The series will wrap up on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Dave Baker and Cheri Kempf will call the action on Fox Sports South.
