No. 1 Softball Sweeps Day Two of Easton Alabama Invite

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 1 ranked Alabama softball team swept day two of the Easton Alabama Invite, defeating UMass, 8-0, and Maryland, 9-1 Saturday at Rhoads Stadium. The two wins gave UA head coach Patrick Murphy his 700th victory while at the helm of the Crimson Tide program. After the day, Alabama stays perfect at 16-0 on the season.
Lunceford drove in three runs, scored three times and ended the game in the sixth inning with a two-run home run that landed in the Brickyard in centerfield.
Alabama once again took advantage of free passes as it drew eight walks and was hit by four pitches. The Tide only needed five hits to plate the eight runs.
The two teams were locked in a pitcher's duel until Alabama broke the game open with four runs in the fifth inning after holding a 2-0 lead.
UA opened the scoring with a single run in the second inning when Alabama went to the small ball. Junior Kayla Braud executed the squeeze play with a bunt to the left side of the infield to score junior Keima Davis from third.
Alabama tacked on one more in the fourth when Traina helped her own cause by hitting an RBI single to left that plated Lunceford.
In the fourth, the Tide took advantage of the freebies as three of the four runs in the frame came on either a walk or a hit by pitch. Braud finished the scoring with an RBI single to short.
UA raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning when Dawson supplied the big hit with her first career triple, scoring on an error and driving in junior Jackey Branham on the play.
Alabama tacked on one more in the third and added a pair of runs in both the fifth and seventh innings to secure the win. Freshman Chaunsey Bell smacked an RBI double down the left field line for her first collegiate hit.
