TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 2 ranked Alabama softball team earned another pair of victories at the Easton Bama Bash Presented by Drash. The Crimson Tide opened Saturday with a 9-4 win over East Carolina and then downed North Dakota State, 3-2, in the nightcap. After the day, UA improves to 12-0 on the season.

Game 1

Alabama freshman hurler Leslie Jury struck out a career high 12 batters to lead the Tide to a 9-4 win over East Carolina. Senior Amanda Locke collected three hits, three runs and drove in three to lead the offensive attack.

Sophomore Jackie Traina drove in two runs on two hits and also scored two runs while Jazlyn Lunceford, on her senior day, batted 3-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run. Senior Jennifer Fenton tallied two hits and newcomer Danae Hays drove in two as the Tide tagged ECU for 15 hits.

Despite one flawed inning where Jury allowed all four runs on five hits, the rookie was superb, not issuing a walk and surpassing her previous career high of three punchouts by the third inning. The complete game effort was also a career first for Jury.

Alabama jumped on ECU in a hurry when it scored three first inning runs. Traina got the scoring started when she singled up the middle to score Lunceford, who led off the inning with an infield single and a stolen base.

Locke then ripped a double to right-center that scored Traina all the way from first. Hays capped off the scoring in the frame when she singled to left to plate Locke from second.

UA added two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Sophomore Kaila Hunt hit a grounder to third that Lunceford was able to beat the throw to home to start the scoring in the inning. Hays then tallied her second RBI of the day when she singled to left to score Locke from third.

After giving up four runs in the bottom of the third, the Tide answered with three of its own in the next half inning. Traina knocked another RBI double to score Fenton before Locke unloaded on a two-out, two-run homer that nearly hit the lights in left field to give Alabama an 8-4 advantage.

Lunceford finished the scoring for Alabama when she squirted an infield single down the third base line to score sophomore Jordan Patterson with the bases loaded.

Game 2

One game after freshman Leslie Jury tallied 12 strikeouts, sophomore Jackie Traina did one better as she fanned 13 in a close 3-2 win over North Dakota State. Traina allowed two runs on four hits to improve to 7-0 on the season.

Each team recorded only four hits as junior Kayla Braud led the way with another multi-hit game, tallying two hits, a run scored and a stolen base.

After giving up two runs Alabama answered in a big way by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. Freshman Danae Hays smoked her first career home run well over the scoreboard in left-center to pull the Tide to within one and then senior Cassie Reilly-Boccia lined her second homer of the season and what proved to be the game-winner, this time sending a two-run shot into the new seats in centerfield.

Alabama will close the tournament when it plays a single game on Sunday. UA will play SIU-E at 1:30 p.m. East Carolina will play North Dakota State at 11 a.m., to open the final day of the home opening weekend.
