TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 2 ranked Alabama softball team earned two wins on the opening day of the Easton Bama Bash Presented by Drash. The Crimson Tide downed East Carolina, 4-2, and then closed the day with a 9-4 victory over North Dakota State. After the doubleheader sweep, Alabama improves to 10-0 on the season.

Game 1

Alabama opened its home slate with a 4-2 win over ECU. Junior Lauren Sewell earned her first win of the season, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four. Sewell held the Pirates without a hit through the first five innings before allowing the two runs in the sixth. Senior Amanda Locke earned her first save of the season, tossing a perfect seventh inning.

The Missouri connection of juniors Courtney Conley and Jackey Branham combined for five of the 11 Crimson Tide hits. Conley led the offensive attack with a 3-for-3 effort, adding a run scored while Branham tallied two hits and drove in a run. Fellow junior Kayla Braud also added two hits, a run, a RBI and a stolen base.

Senior Cassie Reilly-Boccia started the scoring when she drove in Braud on a double to right-center in the first inning. Braud opened the game with a walk and then stole second before coming home on the double.

The next inning senior Olivia Gibson grounded home sophomore Kaila Hunt to give the Tide an early 2-0 lead. Hunt started the frame with a single and then was hit to third on a double off the bat of Conley.

UA extended its lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning when Branham singled home Conley from third. Conley led off the inning with a single down the line in left and moved to second on a wild pitch and then advanced to third on a sac-bunt by Gibson.

After ECU put two up on the board in the top of the sixth, Alabama answered with one in the bottom half. Braud snuck in a bunt single to the pitcher to score junior Keima Davis.

Game 2

Two big innings propelled Alabama to a 9-4 win over North Dakota State. The Crimson Tide scored nine runs on nine hits, using a five-run third and a three-run fourth to earn the win.

Sophomore Kaila Hunt drove in four runs in the contest on two hits while junior Kayla Braud collected two more hits and scored two runs.

Freshman Leslie Jury (3-0) earned the win after throwing 4 2/3 innings. The newcomer allowed three runs on five hits and struck out two. Locke once again came in to shut down the games, pitching 2 1/3 innings, allowing one unearned run while fanning two.

After giving up a run to lead off the game in the second inning, Alabama seized the lead in a big way by putting up five runs in the third.

Reilly-Boccia once again got things going for Alabama when she ripped a double into right-center to plate freshman Danielle Richard and Braud. Hunt then smacked a double of her own to score senior Jennifer Fenton and Reilly-Boccia. Davis singled up the middle to score Hunt and cap the scoring for the inning.

Alabama added three more in the fourth. Senior Jazlyn Lunceford doubled down the line in right to bring home Braud and then two batters later Hunt ripped another double, this time to right-center to plate Lunceford and sophomore Jackie Traina.

Traina capped off the scoring on the day when she hit a double to left-center to score Lunceford from second in the sixth inning.

Alabama will return to the field on Saturday for a doubleheader that will start at 1:30 p.m. The Tide will once again face East Carolina and North Dakota State.
