Pia Rijsdijk Named Second Team All-SEC

Nov. 4, 2013

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama junior forward Pia Rijsdijk was named as a second team All-Southeastern Conference honoree, the league office announced on Monday.

It marks the third consecutive season that Rijsdijk was named as an All-SEC performer after earning all-freshman honors in 2011 and second-team honors a year ago. She is the first Crimson Tide player to earn all-league honors in each of her first three seasons since former goalkeeper Justine Bernier achieved the feat in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Rijsdijk finished the 2013 campaign at or near the top in every offensive category for the Tide. She led Alabama in goals (7), points (18) and game-winning goals (2) and was second on the team in assists (4), shots (42) and shots on goal (16) this season.

Rijsdijk, a native of Numansdorp, Netherlands, developed into one of the top players in the SEC during league play. She scored all seven of her goals and recorded three of her four assists against SEC competition.

Rijsdijk was rewarded for her stellar play in conference when she was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 30. She was also selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week and CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll that same week.

Rijsdijk's recognition marked the fifth consecutive season the Tide had a player named to the league's all-conference team, which is the longest such streak having an Alabama player honored for seven consecutive years from 1994-2000.

Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri was named SEC Coach of the Year, while Ole Miss forward Rafaelle Souza earned SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Florida forward Savannah Jordan was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year. South Carolina goalkeeper D'Angelo was tabbed SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
