April 2, 2014

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama soccer head coach Todd Bramble announced the addition of junior forward Annalika Steyn, who comes to the Capstone from West Virginia and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

A native of Hoover, Ala., Steyn played the past two seasons with the Mountaineers and will be eligible to suit up for the Crimson Tide this fall.

"We have known Annalika for a long time and always thought highly of her as a player," Bramble said. "She brings some strong attacking attributes and athleticism that will hold up well under the rigors of SEC play. We are happy that she has decided to come home."

"It's a great opportunity for me to have a chance to play near my hometown and at a school like the University of Alabama," Steyn said. "One of the factors in my decision to come to Alabama was that my family is nearby so they will be able to come and watch me play. I also have knowledge about the Alabama soccer program, the style of play and coach Bramble, so there is a comfort level there. To have the opportunity to play in the SEC and play alongside girls that I know and have played with before is something I am truly looking forward to."

This past season, Steyn played in all 23 contests and helped lead the Mountaineers to the 2013 Big 12 Tournament title and a berth into the NCAA Tournament. West Virginia finished the season with a 16-4-3 overall record and a No. 8 final national ranking.

Steyn closed the 2013 campaign third on the team with four assists and was sixth on the squad with 6 points (1 goal, 4 assists).

After receiving a medical redshirt as a true freshman in 2011, Steyn played 17 contests during her redshirt freshman season in 2012 and scored one goal that season.

Steyn played her prep career at Spain Park High School, where she was a selected as a 2010 ESPN All-American and was ranked as the No. 12 player in ESPN's Fab 50.

Steyn led the Jaguars to back-to-back state championships in 2009 and 2010 and was a two-time MVP of the Alabama state tournament. A two-time first team all-state performer, Steyn was selected as the 2010 Gatorade Alabama Girls Soccer Player of the Year and the 2010 Birmingham News Player of the Year.

Steyn played her club soccer for Birmingham United where she was a member of a combined seven state championships, including four consecutive from 2007-10. She was also a 2008 National Team camp participant and was a member of ODP state teams from 2007-09.
