TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama rowing team will compete in the Clemson Regatta against the No. 17 ranked Clemson Tigers and Marist on Saturday, March 23, on Lake Hartwell. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. ET.
“Going over to Clemson will not be an easy race,” Alabama head rowing coach Larry Davis said. “Especially over the last four or five years Clemson has constantly been in the NCAA field. We are ready and hungry to go out there. I don’t think we are intimidated by it. We hopefully will be executing a little higher level in our race plan.”
The Tide’s last visit to Clemson was in 2011. UA placed third or better in all five races, including a second place finish in the First Varsity 4+.
The Crimson Tide has been faced with some tough competition, including the likes of Virginia and Duke to start the spring season. The Tide earned wins in the varsity 4, the freshman novice 8, the second varsity 8 and the second varsity 4 on the first day of racing at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on Melton Hill Lake last weekend. UA capped off the weekend with a third varsity 8 finish ahead of Duke.
“We gained some confidence from this past weekend,” Davis said. “You never know where you stand until you go up against one of your competitors. The girls saw the victories and in the other races that we were in it. Especially for a young team, that is very important to have that confidence.”
The entire regatta will be broadcast live on TigerCast at ClemsonTigers.com.
Alabama will return to the water on April 6th when the Tide goes head-to-head with Central Florida and West Virginia on the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
