OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Alabama Rowing is set to start the spring portion of its 2013-14 schedule at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville, in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Two days of races begin on Saturday, March 15.
The weekend action will be split into three sessions, with a Saturday morning session at 9 a.m., a Saturday afternoon session at 3 p.m. and a Sunday morning session at 9 a.m. Other crews competing this weekend against Alabama include Louisville, Virginia, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Minnesota, Tennessee, Duke, Dayton Kansas and West Virginia.
The Crimson Tide and the Michigan State Spartans, both competing this weekend, warmed up for the spring schedule with a scrimmage last weekend in Tuscaloosa on the Black Warrior River. Running four 1,000-meter pieces, Alabama had an opportunity to compete against one of the premiere programs in the country. Head Coach Larry Davis knows the tough level of competition will help the Tide this weekend.
“Having the opportunity to scrimmage a high-level team like Michigan State earlier in the spring than we normally race is a huge plus,” said Davis. “It helps us improve our racing skills and I know it will pay dividends for us at the Oak Ridge Invitational.”
Results from the weekend will posted at row2k.com and GoCards.com.
