TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama rowing added six talented newcomers for the 2014-15 class during the early signing period.
"We're very excited about the addition of these student-athletes to our Crimson Tide Rowing family," said Head Coach Larry Davis. "Not only are they outstanding young athletes with the potential to have an immediate impact on our team, they are also excellent students and will represent the team well in the classroom."
Charlotte Ann Adkins comes to the Tide from Edwards, Colo. and is coached by Grace Malacrida at Mile High Rowing Club. She competed in the Varsity 8+ during her Novice year and helped her team qualify for Nationals three years in a row.
The daughter of Jennifer and David Adkins, she attends Valor High School and is a member of K-Life youth group, Kids Helping Kids and a Valor Ambassador. She also played Volleyball as a freshman and sophomore.
Erin Hayes joins the Tide from Atlanta, Ga. and is coached by Bridget Fowler at St. Andrew Rowing Club. As a coxswain for her club, she finished second in the Southeast in 2012 in the Varsity 4+ and placed 13th at the 2011 Youth Nationals in the Varsity 4+.
The daughter of Stephen and Ellen Hayes, she attends Blessed Trinity and is also a member of Habitat for Humanity and the sign language club.
Margaret Gillespie comes to the Tide from Longwood, Fla. and is coached by Jason Berric at North Orlando Rowing. There, she made back-to-back appearances at Youth Nationals in the Varsity 4x in 2012 and 2013 and the Varsity 2- in 2012.
The daughter of Mark and Moira Gillespie, she attends Lake Mary High School. A team captain this season, Gillespe's high school highlights include team MVP honors for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons and best novice accolades in 2010-2011.
Meghan Hampton hails from Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and competes with the Saratoga Rowing Association under Eric Catalano. She helped her team to a first-place finish at the 2012 Head of the Charles, earned back-to-back second place finishes at Scholastic Nationals in 2012 and 2013 and won the Australian International Regatta in 2013.
She is the daughter of David and Carolyn Hampton and attends Saratoga Springs High School.
Olivia Miller comes to the Tide from Madison, Ala. and is coached by Jeffrey Coy at Rocket City Rowing Club, where she is a 2013-14 team captain. She was a 2013 Novice 8+ regional gold medalist, a 2013 Indoor Sprints Team Relay gold medalist and a 2013 Chattanooga Head Race Bronze medalist with the Varsity 8+ and 4x. In 2012, she was a Chattanooga Head Race Novice 8+ gold medalist.
The daughter of Steve and Stephanie Miller, she attends Providence Classical School. Miller's high school athletic highlights include 2013 Varsity Volleyball Captain, 2013 Wendy's High School Heisman Award, and being selected for the 2013 Volleyball All-Star team. Miller also competes in Varsity softball at Providence Classical School and plays with a travel team as well.
Nicole Lane joins the Tide from Duluth, Ga. and is coached by Skye Elliot at Atlanta Junior Rowing Club. She was awarded the Women's Points Trophy at Southeast Regionals in 2013 and earned a gold medal at the Southeast Regionals in the Second Varsity 4+.
The daughter of Kevin and Vicki Lane, she attends Northview High School. Lane also competes in soccer, and her high school activities include National Beta Club.
The group will be able to take advantage of the brand-new training facility and boathouse, which broke ground just last month. The new state-of-the-art facilities are a big next step for the emerging program and will give the Tide new locker rooms, training facilities, a lounge and places to store and launch the boats.
Alabama rowing begins its 2014 spring season on March 15-16 at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
