Rowing Gets the 2013-14 Season Off to a Strong Start

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Alabama rowing team got the 2013-14 season off to a strong start at the 21st Chattanooga Head Race Saturday, collecting 10 top-10 finishes, including two gold medals, two silvers and a bronze.

Alabama was dominant in the Collegiate 8+ race, taking the top-three spots and four of the top five. The Tide's top boat posted a 17:38.80 to take the win. Alabama was second with a 17:46.64 and third with an 18:07.11 while the Tide's fourth boat took fifth with a time of 18:59.96. The Tide's Novice 8+ boat brought home the victory in a time of 19:15.38, over a minute faster than the rest of the field.

In the Collegiate 4+ race, Alabama bracketed all four boats in the top-10, taking second, fifth, eighth and ninth. Alabama's first boat was just behind Tennessee's A boat, 18:33.77 to 18:46.90. The Tide's second boat finished in a time of 19:13.90 while the third and fourth Alabama boats crossed the line at 19:48.80 and 19:49.10, respectively. The Tide's pairs, finished 10th, 11th and 12th on the day.

Alabama returns to action next weekend at the venerable Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass.
