TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama head gymnastics coach Sarah Patterson has been inducted into the USA Gymnastics Region 8 Hall of Fame as part of the 11-member class of 2009.

"This is a tremendous honor, one that I certainly cherish," Patterson said.

Sarah and David Patterson, who are entering their 32nd year coaching the Crimson Tide, have led Alabama to four NCAA Championships and an NCAA-best 24 regional titles.

"David and I have spent our entire professional careers in Region 8 as club and college coaches," Patterson said. "The relationships we've developed over the last 30-plus years have been pivotal in our careers and our personal life."

Alabama has also won six Southeastern Conference titles under the Pattersons' guidance, including the 2009 championship in April.

"Last season nine of our athletes, over half of our team, came from Region 8," Patterson said. "Without the outstanding coaches and athletes from Region 8, the success we have enjoyed over the years, from the championships to the packed arenas, would never have been possible."

Patterson, a four-time national coach of the year, was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

The 2009 Region 8 inductees also include LSU coach D-D Breaux and former Georgia coach Suzanne Yoculan. Region 8 includes eight states - Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
