BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama senior Kim Jacobwas voted the Southeastern Conference gymnastics' top scholar-athlete for a record third year in a row by the league's coaches it was announced Friday during the SEC Championship practice day.

"Kim is a truly amazing young woman who leads our team in every area, in the classroom, in the gym and in the community, and I can't think of anyone more deserving of this award," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said.

The 2013 NCAA Elite 89 Award winner as the gymnast with highest cumulative grade point average at the NCAA Championships and a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American At-Large First Team member as a junior, Jacob carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average for her Alabama career while majoring in exercise science.

The Raleigh, N.C., native helped lead the Tide to back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2011 and 2012, scoring a 9.95 on the balance beam as a freshman and leading off the Tide's beam rotation with a 9.9 as a sophomore on both nights of the championship. She served as captain of the Tide's third place NCAA Championship team in 2013.

The SEC Championships will be held Saturday with the Tide competing in the second of two sessions, starting at 6 p.m. in the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center along with Florida, LSU and Georgia. It marks the fifth time Birmingham, Ala., has hosted SEC gymnastics, and the first since 2011 when Alabama won its seventh league championship.

"Our fans have been amazing all season long and they have helped carry us to new heights each week," Patterson said. "I'm so excited that the championships are right here in our backyard and I hope our fans will start their spring break with us and that the BJCC will be filled with crimson and white Saturday night."

Alabama practiced on the podium during a two hour practice. It marks the second time this season that the Crimson Tide has had the opportunity to compete on the podium, which raises the equipment off the floor by three feet.
