abama senior All-American Jeana Rice was named Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week for the second time this season coming on the heels of a standout performance in the Crimson Tide’s regular season finale at Michigan.
Rice tied her career best all-around mark against the Wolverines, posting a 39.750. She rang up scores of 9.950 on the uneven bars and balance beam and 9.925 on the vault and floor exercise. She won the all-around, bars and beam and was second on the vault and floor. Rice shares this week’s honor with Florida’s junior Erinn Dooley who posted the same all-around score at home in a loss to No. 1 ranked UCLA.
Rice’s honor comes as No. 3 ranked Alabama is preparing to defend its SEC title on Saturday, March 20. Meet time is set for 7:00 p.m. ET in the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. A native of Longwood, Fla., Rice is the defending SEC Gymnast of the Year and SEC all-around, uneven bars and balance beam champion.
