BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - -
Alabama gymnastics senior Diandra Milliner was named the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week after scoring a perfect 10.0 on the vault the league office announced on Tuesday.
Milliner soared to the second 10.0 of her career on the vault against No. 10 Stanford, leading Alabama to a season-best 49.625 team vault tally, the fifth highest in school history on the way to a school record 198.250 team score, shattering the record of 198.075 set in 1996.
The Wichita, Kan., native had the only perfect vault in the nation last week and is one of only four gymnasts in the nation to post a 10.0 on vault this season. Milliner also added a 9.925 to the Tide's 49.675 floor exercise rotation, which is the second highest in school history.
Milliner is the second UA gymnast to earn SEC Specialist of the Week honors this season, following fellow senior Kim Jacob who earned it on Feb. 11. Jacob and Milliner have also been named the SEC Gymnast of the Week this season, with Jacob earning the award on Jan. 14 and Milliner earning it on Feb. 25.
Alabama has also earned four SEC Freshman of the Week accolades this season with Katie Bailey earning the honor on Jan. 14, Feb. 4 and Feb. 25 while Aja Sims won the award on Feb. 18.
Between the three categories, Alabama has earned eight total SEC honors to this point in the season.
Alabama closes its regular-season slate Friday at 7:30 p.m. against in-state rival Auburn. Tickets for the Tide's home meets and the SEC and NCAA Championships are on sale through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, and online at RollTide.com.
