BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Alabama All-American gymnast Diandra Milliner was named the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week after a standout performance against UCLA last Friday the league office has announced.
Milliner, the 2012 NCAA Vault Runner-up, earned the weekly honor after scoring a career-high tying 9.95 on the floor exercise against the Bruins. It marked her second 9.95 of the season and first in front of the home crowd in Coleman Coliseum.
"Diandra's floor routine against UCLA was amazing," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "It's the best one she's done in competition to this point. To have her there to anchor what is becoming one of the nation's best floor lineups is certainly a big advantage for us."
The Wichita, Kan., native came up in the lineup right after a fall in the Tide's previous routine. Milliner's score not only tied her with teammate Kim Jacob for first place on the floor, but for the highest score of the night on any event. It also pushed the Tide to its fourth 49.4-or-better floor exercise total of the season.
Milliner and her teammates travel to Baton Rouge to take on No. 4 LSU this Friday at 7 p.m. CT. After the LSU meet, the Tide closes out the regular season at home on March 15 against No. 2 Oklahoma. Tickets for the Tide's regular-season finale are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum or online at RollTide.com.
