TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Gymnastics team, fresh off its third 197-plus score of the season, is second in the national rankings this week, the first determined by regional qualifying score (RQS). The Crimson Tide has been ranked first or second for each of the last five weeks.
The RQS is determined by taking a team's top three road scores, its next three highest scores, dropping the high score and averaging the remaining five. Alabama has a 196.595 this week, just two-tenths behind No. 1 Oklahoma. UCLA is third, followed by Florida and Georgia. Southeastern Conference schools make up half of the top 12, with only Auburn, at No. 16, falling outside that group.
Alabama is second on the vault and balance beam, third on the floor exercise and 10th on the uneven bars.
Senior Morgan Dennis leads the Crimson Tide in the all-around with a No. 5 ranking. Dennis is also third on the floor exercise, ninth on the balance beam and 11th on the vault. Sophomore Ashley Priess is sixth on the balance beam, seventh on the uneven bars and 18th on the floor exercise.
Sophomore Geralen Stack-Eaton is ranked 11th on the vault and 24th on the balance beam. Senior Ricki Lebegern is ranked 17th on the vault.
After two weeks at home, Alabama returns to the road for the next two weekends, facing No. 12 Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 26 and No. 1 Oklahoma on Friday, March 5.
