BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama gymnast Katie Baileywas named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season the league office announced on Tuesday.
"Katie has an amazing competitive drive, which is just one of the reasons we wanted her here at Alabama," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "What's exciting for us is to watch as she and our other freshmen continue to get better each week."
Bailey, who also earned the honor following the Missouri meet to start the season, posted a career-best 9.850 on the balance beam at No. 3 LSU last Friday and scored a 39.300 in the all-around against the Tigers. Her all-around mark was her second highest of the season and her highest road score.
Along with senior Sarah DeMeo, Bailey leads the Crimson Tide's in routines in the competitive lineup, having gone in the all-around in every meet this season.
Bailey and her teammates take on No. 5 Georgia this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. It will be Alabama's fourth top-10 showdown in as many weeks. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.3622) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, or online at RollTide.com.
