TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Two Alabama gymnasts are ranked in the top-10 nationally in the all-around this week, while the Crimson Tide maintained its place at No. 6 for the second week in a row after posting its highest score of the season, a 196.825, at the Metroplex Challenge Saturday.
Junior Geralen Stack-Eaton, who made her 2011 all-around debut in the Metroplex Challenge with a 39.475, is ranked second nationally, while senior Kayla Hoffman, who posted a career-best 39.525 Saturday, is ranked eighth. Rankings are based on total average at this point in the season.
The Tide is ranked second on the vault, third on the floor exercise, seventh on the balance beam and 18th on the uneven bars. Alabama's season-high 49.5 on the vault at Arkansas still stands as the highest score in the nation on any event this season.
The Tide faces No. 1 ranked Florida this Friday in Gainesville. Stanford is second, followed by Utah and Georgia at third and fourth, respectively. Oklahoma, which is just one-hundredth of a point ahead of Alabama, rounds out the top-five.
Three Tide gymnasts are ranked in the top 10 on the vault with Hoffman coming in at No. 3, Stack-Eaton at No. 9 and sophomore Ashley Sledge at No. 10. Sophomore Becca Alexin is ranked 16th on the uneven bars while freshman Diandra Milliner is ranked 17th on the balance beam. On the floor exercise, freshman Hannah Toussaint is fifth, Milliner is 11th and Stack-Eaton is 17th.
After taking on the Gators this Friday, Alabama returns to Coleman Coliseum for a two-meet homestand, taking on Auburn on Friday, Feb. 11 and Kentucky, on Friday, Feb. 18 in the Tide's annual Power of Pink meet.
