BATON ROUGE, La. -
The No. 7 ranked Alabama gymnastics team returns to the road for its fourth meet of the season, taking on No. 3 LSU in Baton Rouge, La., Friday at 7 p.m. ET in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. It will be the third top-10 showdown in a row for the Crimson Tide.
"It's going to be a great college atmosphere and a great rivalry meet," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "I'd much rather be in that kind of environment, when there's six thousand people cheering for the other team than go across the country and compete in front of a couple of a hundred people."
Alabama and LSU last met in the 2013 NCAA Super Six Team Finals where the Tide finished third with a 197.350 and the Tigers were fifth with a 197.050. It was Alabama's NCAA-record 19th Super Six berth, while LSU was making its third appearance in team finals.
Alabama and LSU last met in the regular season on March 8, 2013 in Baton Rouge where Alabama posted a 197.725-197.500 win over the Tigers. It was Alabama's highest score of the regular season.
The Tigers are one of six teams ranked in this week's top-10 nationally that Alabama has or will face this season. In addition to LSU there are contests with No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Florida, No. 4 Michigan, No. 6 Georgia on the Tide's schedule. The Tide has already faced No. 8 Nebraska and No. 10 Arkansas.
"Our schedule is one of the toughest we've faced in recent memory," Patterson said. "It's just getting more challenge as the season goes on. Because of that, we will be prepared when the championship season rolls around. We won't be looking over our shoulder at anyone, because we'll have seen the best."
