Jan. 25, 2009
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Freshman Geralen Stack-Eaton was named the Tide's Performance of the Week winner while sophomore Kayla Hoffman earned the Attitude of the Week award the Alabama Gymnastics coaching staff announced on Sunday. Stack-Eaton's career-best 9.9 on the balance beam at Georgia helped the Crimson Tide solidify its No. 1 national ranking on that event and led to a season-high 42.250 team score. The Horsham, Pa. native's score on the uneven bars, 9.85, was the second highest on the team and helped push Alabama to a season high 49.275. She is the SEC's top ranked freshman on the balance beam and is fifth overall. "Geralen turned in a stellar performance on three events in Athens this weekend," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "She not only had our best score of the season on the balance beam, but her 9.9 was our highest score on any event Friday night." Hoffman, an All-American last season as a freshman, had shoulder surgery in the fall and has been working diligently to return to the Tide's lineup. She is training all four events and is expected back in the lineup in the coming weeks. "Not only has Kayla exhibit tremendous energy and enthusiasm on meet day," Patterson said. "She has also shown great perseverance and worked extremely hard, coming in on her own to train and maintaining a great attitude throughout, as she works her way back into competitive shape." Alabama travels to Fayetteville, Ark. Friday to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Barnhill Arena at 7 p.m. CT.
