Women's Golf Assumes Consensus No. 1 Ranking

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Following a second-place finish in the SEC/Pac-10 Challenge over the weekend, the Alabama women's golf team is the consensus No. 1 team in the nation at the conclusion of the 2010 fall schedule.

The Crimson Tide owns the top spot in both the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and Golf World/NGCA Coaches' Poll after finishing its fall schedule with victories at the Fall Preview and the Tar Heel Invitational, while posting a second-place finish at the SEC/Pac-10 Challenge and sixth at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship.

As a team Alabama has carded eight rounds under par and one round at par. The Crimson Tide has set the single-round school record three times and has had four individual rounds of 66 or better. UA is averaging almost three strokes below par per round at 284.25.

Junior Brooke Pancake, currently ranked by the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index as the No. 3 player in the nation, leads Alabama with a 70.25 scoring average. The native of Chattanooga, Tenn., claimed her first medalist honors at the Tar Heel Invitational, shooting a career-low 11-under-par 205. She also has another top-five finish and has not finished outside of the top 10 individually.

Senior Camilla Lennarth, ranked No. 10 in the nation, is right behind Pancake with a scoring average of 70.83. The Stockholm, Sweden, native boasts 9-of-12 rounds under par and has finished in the top five in three of Alabama's four tournaments this season.

Sophomore Jennifer Kirby is the third UA player averaging below par for the Tide, coming in with a 71.67 scoring average. She has fired six rounds under par this season, has two top-five finishes and is currently ranked No. 18 in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

True freshman Stephanie Meadow, currently ranked No. 48 in the nation, is coming off her best finish of the year, a tie for 16th at the SEC/Pac-10 Challenge. The Northern Ireland native is fourth on the team with a scoring average of 72.75. Senior Courtney Harter is also coming off her best showing of the year at the SEC/Pac-10 Challenge, finishing in a tie for 27th. Harter has a scoring average of 74.50 and is ranked No. 125 in the nation.

Alabama resumes the 2010-11 season on Feb. 13-15, 2011, when they look to defend their title at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
