Sept. 19, 2013
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Alabama women's golf team returns to the course where they won the 2012 NCAA National Championship this weekend at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship on the par-72, 6,337-yard North Course at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
"It gives you goose bumps just thinking about going back," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said about returning to the Vanderblit Legends Club. "I will be a little surreal, but for some of it will be a big boost and a confidence builder."
The event consists of three rounds that get underway on Friday, Sept. 20, and finish on Sunday, Sept. 22. The Crimson Tide was unable to participate in the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship last season due to the World Team Amateur in Turkey, but the 2013 visit marks the sixth trip in the last eight years for Coach Potter's team.
The 15-team field is annually one of the toughest in golf and includes 11 teams in the Golf World/WGCA Coaches' poll. The second-ranked Crimson Tide are joined by No. 3 Duke, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 9 Vanderbilt (host), No. 15 North Carolina, No. 16 Virginia, No. 19 Texas, No. 20 North Carolina State, No. 21 Michigan State and No. 24 Baylor along with Auburn, Kentucky, Princeton and Wake Forest.
Senior Stephanie Meadow will anchor the Alabama lineup in the No. 1 position. She tied for second at the Dale McNamara Fall Preview in the season opener at 4-under-par 206 and has a stroke average of 68.7 entering the tournament.
Junior Daniela Lendl is fresh off of her first collegiate top 10 at the Fall Preview and will play No. 2 for the Tide this weekend. She is second on the team with a scoring average of 69.7. United States Amateur champion Emma Talley is third in the lineup followed by Arizona transfer Janie Jackson and Northport, Ala., native Cammie Gray.
