TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama women's golf team released its 2014-15 schedule on Thursday and it features some of the most challenging events in collegiate golf.
"This year's schedule is a great mix of new events and places we have enjoyed playing for many years," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "This is a challenging schedule that I hope will get this team ready to compete for SEC and NCAA Championships. This year's schedule gives the team the opportunity to play some great courses, but is also extremely difficult from a competition standpoint. It should give this team a great opportunity to develop throughout the season."
The Crimson Tide, fresh of their fifth consecutive top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships and ninth straight trip to NCAAs, opens the 2014-15 season Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club on Sept. 19-21, which is the site of the Crimson Tide's 2012 NCAA Championship victory.
Alabama then makes its first appearance at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate present by 3M at the Watson Course at the Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla., on Sept. 28-30. The Crimson Tide make a return appearance in the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Oct. 10-12. Alabama then closes out the fall schedule at the Landfall Tradition on Oct. 24-26, in Wilmington, N.C., at the Country Club of Landfall.
The Crimson Tide opens the spring slate for the first time at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge hosted by Ohio State at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., on Feb. 8-10. The Tide then make their fourth straight appearance at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on March 6-8, at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. UA won both the 2012 and 2013 Darius Rucker titles.
Alabama makes its annual trip to the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on March 27-29, at the University of Georgia Golf Course. It will be the Tide's 34th appearance in the Liz Murphey, an event Alabama has won three times (1987, 2011 and 2012). The Tide closes the regular season with a trip to the desert at the PIN ASU Invitational at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., on April 10-12. Alabama and Emma Talley both won the event in 2013.
Alabama will begin postseason play on April 17-19, at the SEC Championship at the Greystone Golf and Country Club's Founders Course in Birmingham, Ala. The Crimson Tide won the program's second SEC Championship in 2013 at Greystone.
NCAA Regional Championship play is scheduled for May 7-9, at one of four sites around the country (Raleigh, N.C., San Antonio, Texas, South George, Utah and South Bend, Ind.). The 2015 NCAA Championships will be held at The Concession Club in Bradenton, Fla., on May 22-27.
The NCAAs will go to a match-play format in 2015 like the men's tournament. The first three days will be stroke play qualifying followed by a cut to the top eight teams for match play on May 26-27. The top 40 individuals will also compete for the individual title on May 25. The Golf Channel will broadcast the final three days of the tournament.
