DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Alabama duo of Brooke Pancake and Jennifer Kirby combined for a seven-under-par round of 65 to remain atop the leaderboard following the second round of the inaugural Hooters Women's Collegiate Team Championship presented by the National Golf Coaches Association at Achasta By Reynolds.
Pancake and Kirby sit at 11-under, one shot clear of Cheyenne Woods and Michelle Shin of Wake Forest and Brittany Altimore and Elizabeth Brightwell of Virginia. Seven schools are within four shots of the lead heading into Thursday's final round.
Pancake and Kirby's score of 65, shot under the best ball format of day two, tied for the third lowest round of the day. The 54-hole event will conclude tomorrow under an aggregate score format. Pancake and Kirby are set to tee off at 8:57 (CDT).
Pancake, a rising junior from Chattanooga, Tenn., finished tied for 12th at the NCAA Championships with a 1-under-par total of 287 while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average in business during her first two years at the University of Alabama.
Kirby, a true freshman from Paris, Ontario, Canada, was named to the honorable mention All-America team after a record-setting season at the Capstone. She became the ninth Alabama women's golfer to earn All-America honors, but the first freshman to accomplish the feat. Kirby broke the freshman scoring record at Alabama, eclipsing Pancake's 2008-09 mark of 74.06 by a full stroke, finishing with a 73.06 stroke average.
