ST. LOUIS -The 2014 Curtis Cup Match begins on Friday at the St. Louis (Mo.) Country Club with two Alabama golfers in different color uniforms.
Stephanie Meadow, one of the heroes of Great Britain and Ireland's 2012 Curtis Cup victory, makes her final appearance as an amateur, while Emma Talley, who won the 2013 Untied States Amateur, tees it up for the Americans.
Meadow, from Jordanstown, Northern Ireland, saw her Alabama career come to a conclusion with a third-place individual finish at the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla., last month. She clinched GB&I's winning point in the 2012 Curtis Cup and was the event's top scorer. She also won the 2012 Ladies British Amateur Open Championship and owns almost every Crimson Tide record.
Talley, from Princeton, Ky., makes her first appearance in the Curtis Cup after finishing her sophomore season at the Capstone tied for 38th at the NCAAs. She finished the 2013-14 season with a 73.29 scoring average and a second-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional.
Martha Lang (Jones) was the first Alabama player in school history to participate in the Curtis Cup, playing in 1992 and serving as captain in 1996. Jenny Suh was the third in 2006 while Meadow and Brooke Pancake became the third and four Curtis Cup participants in 2012 from Alabama in 2012. Talley is the Crimson Tide's fifth Curtis Cup player.
The Match will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 6, with three Four-Ball matches in the morning, followed by three Foursomes matches in the afternoon. Play continues on Saturday and Sunday, concluding with the eight singles' matches Sunday afternoon.
The United States owns a 27-7-3 edge over Great Britain and Ireland in the 37 pervious Curtis Cup Matches. The Americans has won seven straight (1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010) matches before Meadow led the GB&I team to victory at Nairn in 2012.
