Three Crimson Tide Women's Golfers Earn All-SEC Honors
April 23, 2008
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Three members of the Alabama women's golf team garnered All-SEC honors as announced by the conference office. Junior Kathleen Ekey (Wadsworth, Ohio) was named to the All-SEC First-Team while newcomers Courtney Harter (Clearwater, Fla.) and Camilla Lennarth (Stockholm, Sweden) garnered All-Freshman Team accolades. "We are better this year than last year and that says a lot after losing an All-American in Jenny Suh," head coach Mic Potter said. "Kathleen is very deserving of being named to the first-team. She is having a fantastic year and has given us a lot of stability at the top of the lineup. Courtney and Camilla have given us depth that is vital to being successful at the collegiate level. This really speaks well for the future of our team."
Ekey instantly made Alabama a national threat after transferring from Furman. The junior is ranked No. 18 in the nation by Golfweek and leads the No. 8 ranked (Golf World) Crimson Tide with a 72.90 scoring average. Her current scoring average is the lowest all-time at the Capstone. Ekey also broke the 18 hole school record by firing a 65 at the Crimson Tide Classic in the final round to take top honors with a 54-hole score of 203. Harter had no problems making the transition from high school to the college game by winning the first tournament she ever played in. The Clearwater, Fla. native took medalist honors at the Wildcat Fall Invitational by finishing with a final score of 213. The freshman fired a 67 (-5) in her first ever 18 holes in an Alabama uniform. Harter has a 75.88 scoring average and has turned in four rounds under par in her freshman campaign. Harter also placed sixth at the Crimson Tide Classic with a 54-hole score of 222.
Lennarth has not only made a seamless transition to college golf but to life in a foreign country as well. The Stockholm, Sweden, native currently sports a scoring average of 74.67, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. Lennarth placed second at the Wildcat Fall Invitational to help lead the Tide to its first team title since the beginning of the 2005-06 season. The newcomer finished third at the Crimson Tide Classic with a career best final score of 207. Lennarth has fired five rounds under par this season. 2008 SEC Women's Golf Awards (*--unanimous) SEC COACH OF THE YEAR Jill Briles-Hinton, Florida SEC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR Stacy Lewis, Arkansas SEC GOLFER OF THE YEAR Stacy Lewis, Arkansas* SEC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR Cydney Clanton, Auburn FIRST-TEAM ALL-SEC Kathleen Ekey, Alabama, Jr. Stacy Lewis, Arkansas, Sr. Cydney Clanton, Auburn, Fr.
