TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama true freshman Emma Talley was named both the Golfweek National and Southeastern Conference Player of the Week following her victory at the PING/ASU Invitational this past weekend in Tempe, Ariz.
It was the first-career win for the Princeton, Ky., native who fired rounds of 68, 69 and 70 for the two-shot win. Her play was also key in the Crimson Tide's nine-shot team victory over No. 1 Southern California and No. 3 Duke. It was the fifth team victory of the year and the fourth in five events this spring.
Talley shot 9-under-par 207 and has reeled off four straight under-par rounds to lower her 2012-13 scoring average to 72.74. She is averaging 1.13 shot per round over par for the season with two rounds in the 60s and 12 of 23 rounds at par or better.
She ranks sixth in the SEC in scoring and 32nd in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Talley has four top-10 finishes in eight events and two top-five showings.
The Crimson Tide begins play at the 2013 SEC Championship at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Ala., on Friday at 9:40 a.m.
